What have my parents been doing for thirty years?
Above this question was asked by one of the main characters in a documentary, which has shown how students of FSZE realized that they university would be modified and it could be run by foundation which had many members or supporters of the government. So they started to protest and occupy their university and they did not allow to enter new leaders in.
And they fought as long as they could and they resistance
become symbol and I have though it would be the most influence event in our
country and in our XXI. century.
But this question hit me and I started to think about it,
because I believe that it is a phenomenon that caracterises people who were
born in socialist in Hungary. At that time everyone had to do what the regime
dictated. They kept every citizen under pressure and we were threatened with
different ways. For example we had to fear about western countries because they
were our enemies and they made an association to destroy our nation and our
country. They did not accept our idea about socializm and they did not
understand our commitment this conception.
Nevertheless, our country was full of rebels who did not
want to live in dictatorship and they began to speak about western countries
life was better than our walks of life in Hungary in this time. They were
prosecuted and when they were custodied they were sentenced as well as had to
go to prison.
On the otherside, the power rewarded who was extremely
pliant and did not want to do anything else what they were told. So they could
get flats, cars, good jobs and they were be able to go abroad and had many
experiences about how people lived in another socialist countries.
All in all, we could acquire and we can live with these skills
which have not transformed from day to day. But in my opinion, we should learn
to protect everything that becomes an uncomfortable to us and opposite our
values and we do not allow us to stay in silent.
